Tucson, AZ -- Alta Vista High School graduating senior, Anapaula Buelna, met with Senator Jeff Flake; Raul Grijalva"s Senior Policy Advisor, Norma Salazar-Ibarra and his Chief of Staff, Amy Emerick-Clerkin, yesterday in Washington D.C.
Buelna is experiencing democracy in action as she spends her spring break in Washington D.C. with the Close-Up Foundation. She is the only student representative from Arizona.
Because of Ms. Buelna"s proximity to Mexico, she had hoped to ask questions about immigration reform and how congress "will continue to support alternative charter schools" like hers. However, the new administration is keeping Capitol Hill abuzz with activity and the congressmen were unable to take time to answer her questions.
Her interest in political science, as former student body president and her academic strength in American History and Government
classes, support why we are so proud that she is representing AVHS and The Leona Group in Washington D.C.
